Megan Hanacek took the same idea 78 days in season 3. After that the item vanishes from the record entirely.

The trade that killed it is easy to reconstruct from what carriers did: all four paired the bivy with a full sleeping bag, because it is a waterproof shell over a sleep system, not a sleep system. That means it competes for a slot against a colder rated bag, a bigger tarp, or more cordage, and from season 4 onward every contestant it might have suited picked one of those instead.

What we would actually buy, if wet exposed terrain made the case, is exactly what the record shows: a military surplus Gore-Tex bivy, the one version with a winner behind it, valued for a laminate that breathes while shedding rain and a construction meant to be dragged across rock for months.
